A shrink tunnel machine is a specialized packaging system that uses controlled heat to shrink polymer plastic film tightly around a product or bundle. It serves as the second stage in a shrink wrapping line, following an L-sealer or sleeve wrapper that applies the initial loose film.
How It Works
-
Wrapping: A sealer unit loosely wraps the product in shrink film (such as POF, PVC, or PE) and heat-seals the edges.
-
Conveying: The product enters the heated chamber (tunnel) via a variable-speed conveyor belt.
-
Heating: Recirculating hot air uniformally heats the film, causing its polymer chains to contract.
-
Cooling & Setting: As the item exits, ambient air or cooling blowers rapidly set the film into a tight, contoured protective skin.
Key Business Advantages
-
Product Protection: Shields goods from moisture, dust, dirt, and abrasion during transit.
-
Cost Reduction: Eliminates or reduces the need for heavy corrugated cardboard boxes.
-
Tamper Visibility: Any break or tear in the tight shrink film provides immediate evidence of tampering.
-
Enhanced Shelf Appeal: High-clarity films provide a glossy finish while keeping internal branding fully visible.
